The short and sweet answer would be About three billion people. It might be more then that, I haven't checked the latest report and I really don't care to.
But so often it's more then that and so often it's less. The number keeps changing whenever Charles wants to make a point, whenever In a single instant everything changed rapidly for the world. It lit a fire in mankind that changed us from the inside out, that turned us into something different. You have to look at the people who say it's something better or the few (ever increasing few) who say it's something worse, something terrible.
I remember being half in a haze of pain and watching the TV and these images of Yellowstone national forest because the virus spread cross species and the animals were too fucking dumb to realize that if you were going out in the sun you were going to die.
We watched the forests burn. We watched yogi bear and all the other forest creatures die half mad in pain and we didn't do a goddamn thing.
I don't like admitting it, but it drove us mad, the whole scenario. Me too for half a moment I was so..angry and hurt and thirsty and watching the animals burn took the pain away because it wasn't us.
Once the forests were gone we started looking for other things to fill that void.
Other things to kill.
The longer answer would be Humanity, mine, society's, whatever collective entity you want to call it, but my brother says I brood too much so I'll be succinct and to the point and leave it at Three Billion Humans and growing and let you accept that.
